Theristes

Theristes Mavroeidis

Short stories | Greek | 2026, Metaixmio editions, Greece

Synopsis
Locals and foreigners, permanent residents and transient visitors, youthful and elderly faces, cross paths under the same sky in different parts of Greece. The common denominator of this polyphonic human-geography is the bittersweet, sarcastic tone that highlights—at times explicitly, at times implicitly—the deeper stakes behind the events.

Through disparate stories scattered across the country, “Theristes” (The reapers) seek out the materials that compose the collective experience of the Greek summer: the anticipation, the disillusionment, the intensity, and the ceaseless nostalgia for the summer we always long for to return.
